This attukkal or ural is a hand mill for grinding idli, dosa or aappam batter.
Aappak kadai is a shallow kadai more like a concave tawa for making aappam, a dish made with rice and urad gram like dosa.Aappam is spongy, while dosa is flat.
This puttu kudam or puttu maker is designed for steaming kuzhayp puttu, a breakfast dish containing alternating layers of rice flour and coconut shavings.
This is the pounding mill in which rice is dehusked by pounding with ulakkai, a flail or club.The rice thus obtained is called Kaikutthal arisi.
